Love this, saw this look-alike- 'whatever' also in a kind of palm trees,in the SOUTH of ITALY, but not excact the same.... strange things but good for photography...
As far as I know, these aren't edible. None of our palms are date palms and most other palm's fruits are bitter or sour and are usually eaten by birds. (I think)
