Friday's Sunset At Both Ends Of My Nikon's Zoom

Yesterday evening, Lovely Wife and I picked up the Ford Taurus we own from having the air conditioner repaired. Last year, there was an incident of I-95 on the way to work one morning that resulted in a trailer's aluminum fender skewering the front of the car at 70mph.

We knew it would cost a good bit to have fixed, so I've mostly just driven it to and from work, sans air conditioning.

To celebrate the Taurus's ice cold air, we went for a drive to a park we like that is on the Indian River Lagoon.

As the sun went down, I took these two photos at either end of the zoom range of my 18-200mm Nikon zoom. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS LENS!

I even remembered to stop down to a tiny f-stop to prevent the sun from blooming. It's nice and round like it should be.

Easter Sunday, April 8, 2007

Happy Resurrection Sunday!

The first photo is one of Lovely Wife's new flower pots and some brilliant purple petunias she planted the other day. Gorgeous. Nikon D70s; 1/40sec; f20; ISO 200

The second photo is actually a fake flower that is in our little water fountain/tub on the back patio. I glanced over and the late afternoon sun was shining on it and the water was rippling and glinting in the light. Quite beautiful for a fake flower. Nikon D70s; 1/200sec; f5.6; ISO 200

Due to the crazy week, and preparing for the memorial service for Lovely Wife's Mother on this past Friday, I haven't had a chance to get out on a photo excursion with my new lens.

Friday after the memorial service, and after everyone left our house, I took a few shots out back around the pool. I can already tell that I love, love, love this lens.

It's nice and sharp for such a wide range zoom and the vibration reduction feature (similar to Canon's image stabilization) is quite amazing.

Both of these photos were taken with the new 18-200mm Nikon VR lens on a 15 minute mini photo safari on our home's back patio/pool area.

God bless all of you on this most holy of Christian holidays.

Don't forget to go over to my "real" blog, on which I post photos each and every Sunday.

New Lens

OK, this is boring, but I'm excited. Deal.

Got my new Nikon 18-200mm VR lens yesterday. (It's full name is: 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED-IF AF-S VR DX Zoom-Nikkor)

It has a motor system within the lens that can sense and counteract hand shake by moving one of the internal lens elements. First thing I did was to try out the Vibration Reduction function on some of Lovely Wife's newly planted flowers.

No sharpening in any of these photos.

1/5sec; f/36; zoom at 200mm vibration reduction OFF
1/5sec; f/36; zoom at 200mm vibration reduction ON
1/10sec; f/25; zoom at 200mm vibration reduction OFF
1/10sec; f/25; zoom at 200mm vibration reduction ON

Well, I think it's sweet.
